2008 Switch 6.0
Mauisails Switch 6.0 From PLANCHEMAG (March/April 2008 Issue):
The most appropriate for the strong wind!
With less than 20% of x-ply spread on the outside of the sail, the Switch is the lightest of the group in construction. Mast panel in Dacron, 3 tubular battens with a triangular cut for this sail with a thin profile.
Ultra light and soft, the Switch twists a lot in its all body. Its power is a bit less and needs a bit more wind to get its potential.
We can straightaway feel a long wish length and huge potential for high end performance. This gets confirmed very quickly on the first reach full speed. No sail in this test can compete for speed. Like the Remedy, the Switch offers a reactive feeling with added softness and loose leech. As a consequence each gust is translated in a huge acceleration.
This Switch is the easiest to sail in high winds settles on its own on the deck and does not move! The stability and control are excellent. This is the sail you can push the furthest in high winds. Also manoeuvrable, you just do not feel it in the jibes. It can easily be used in the surf with a good neutral profile in the waves.
This is a soft sail not as stiff as its competitors that emphasizes on comfort and lightness. Be careful though not too be munched in the shore-break!
Tester's Feedback (1.80m - 97kg):
It feels like a feather in your hands, the Switch lacks a bit of power to get planning. Then it is the ultimate speed weapon that has no high end limit. The general softness absorbs all the unevenness created by the chop and the gust. FANTASTIC for Bump & Jump.
+: Light, soft, neutral, high end performance, comfort
-: Planning, light construction for waves
