2008 TR4 7.0
Mauisails TR4 7.0 From PLANCHEMAG (March/April 2008 Issue):
One of the less tiring!
With 9 battens, the TR4 has the longest boom length and flatter draft. The luff pocket is wide and reinforcements on the light side.
A good point, this sail is THE EASIEST to downhaul BY HAND!
With its boom length, the TR4 is less manoeuvrable. This not a power house with a not as deep profile but very well locked in. Once on the plane, this is the lightest in you hands. It settles perfectly on the deck. It prefers going straight than jibing.
The centre of effort is more centred than others which gives the advantage to have the draft in front of you and not have unnecessary pull from both arms. The TR4 is one of the rigs that sail in auto-pilot. Not as deep and powerful it lets you save your energy and concentrate on board trim. This is one of the sail that handles the gust best.
In pure performance, it is distinctive by its huge versatility with a strong feel to drive high upwind and speed to go broad downwind.
To sum up, this TR4 sails in auto-pilot and a bit less manoeuvrable.
Tester's Feedback (1.80m - 97kg):
This is stable, fast with no high end limit and stay neutral more easily than others. This sail is recommended for those who want easy access to high end performance without being tossed around in the gusts.
+: Ze easiest to downhaul, huge stability, easy sailing, upwind/speed capabilities, easy performance
-: manoeuvrability
